Acupressure is one of the more commonly used methods for relieving strains and fatigue due to prolonged mobile/computer usage. By carefully applying pressure to selected acupoints, the body’s Qi and blood circulation can be improved, thereby enhancing our health and vitality. This talk will cover the fundamentals of meridian channels and acupoints. Some commonly used acupressure techniques will also be introduced. With this knowledge, we will learn to locate some commonly used acupoints more effectively to relieve the common symptoms that arise after long hours of using our mobile phones or computer devices.

项平教授简介：项平教授，毕业于原南京中医学院医疗系，获医学硕士学位，毕业后长期从事中医教育管理、教学及中医内科临床诊疗工作。历任南京中医药大学教员、副教授、教授、中医师等职。现任新加坡中医学院院长、南京中医药大学教授、博士研究生导师。编著有中医教材、专著16部，撰写学术论文60余篇。牵头完成省部级科研项目4项。（讲座简介请见“报名表格”。**不允许单场报名**）

Chinese herbs and medicine are commonly used in TCM to cure illness. In most cases, they also have been used in our daily lives, knowingly or unknowingly, as a form of healthcare to strengthen our health or alleviate our uncomfortable symptoms encountered in our body such as excessive phlegm, “heatiness”, cough etc. In many cases, some of the herbs and medicine that you have tried may be effective on one occasion; but on another occasion, they are either ineffective or could worsen your symptoms. 4 broad subjects will be covered in this Commonly Used Chinese Herbs and Medicine (Part 1). You will first learn about a simple human physiological model and how a human may fall ill from the perspective of TCM. Then, you will learn about some common theories in relation to the herbs and medicine and their applications. Using this set of knowledge, you can then understand why herbs or medicine that are effective on a particular occasion or a particular person may not necessary be effective on another occasion or another person. After acquiring some foundational theories on herbs and medicine, you will use them to examine some herbs and medicine that can be easily bought in local shops. A trip down to the healing garden at the Singapore Botanic Gardens will also be conducted to introduce herbs that can be grown in our local climate. Finally, you will learn how simple herbal decoctions can be formulated by combining herbs and medicine you have learned. By understanding the properties of the herbs and medicine, you will know better what to use, when to use and how to use them in an effective matter. During the course, besides learning the properties of commonly used herbs, you will also have the opportunity to savour some herbal decoctions prepared using these herbs.

总结《金匮要略》中妇科病的治疗特色，并结合临床案例，分享师承《金匮》论治妇科病的理法方药，辨治月经病、妊娠病、妇科杂病的部分医案，包括漏下、经行后期、不孕症、妊娠喘证、妇科杂病腹痛、继发性闭经、卵巢囊肿、老年性阴道炎、外阴白斑等12则案例。

结合临床案例，解析《金匮要略》中主治头身痛或肢体痛症经方的选方思路与应用要领。包括葛根汤、麻黄加术汤、麻黄杏仁薏苡甘草汤、防己黄芪汤、桂枝附子汤、白术附子汤、甘草附子汤、白虎加桂枝汤、桂枝芍药知母汤、乌头汤、黄芪桂枝五物汤、乌头桂枝汤、甘姜苓术汤等13首经方治疗痛证的临床应用体会。

神经系统疾病是针灸临床常见疾病。基于大量中医古籍、临床经验及现代科学研究结果，对面神经麻痹、坐骨神经痛、急慢性腰痛等十多种神经系统疾病的中医理论及治疗方案进行深入研究，在循证医学证据的基础上，制定出这些疾病的临床实践指南，推荐出最佳治疗方案，并进行临床应用研究，取得了很好的临床疗效。

奇经八脉理论是针灸经络理论的重要组成部分，在针灸临床尤其是老年病、妇科疾病等疑难疾病的治疗中有着十分重要的应用价值。本人应用奇经八脉理论指导针灸治疗肝癌腹胀、吞咽障碍、强直性脊柱炎、慢性咽炎、卵巢早衰、脊髓型颈椎病、顽固性呃逆、冠心病、腓总神经损伤、顽固性失眠等疑难杂证，取得满意疗效，现介绍其应用要点与临床体会。

With the shift of our workload going electronic, people spend most of their working hours desk-bound with minimal movement. Some individuals manage to find time in order to keep physically active after-work or during weekends, but this short amount of time drives some of us to push our physical limits, resulting in injuries over time. With only a limited number of hours on hand, it may be difficult to find time to arrange for a “maintenance” session and some of us may leave an injury untreated for a prolonged amount of time, resulting in some choosing to skip their rare physical trainings to recover. In Chinese Medicine, pain can be associated with rheumatism (“风湿”) and poor circulation. Learn to differentiate between the types of pain and how to recognise potentially serious ailments when they are still in their early stages. By listening to our bodies, learn to make use of manipulation, acupressure and medicine in order to promote blood circulation and provide smooth passage of the meridian channels in the body, so as to improve health, vitality and physical recovery. In this course, Physician Niklas will be covering pain in a systematic way mainly involving the neck and spine, shoulder, knees and other common types of joint pain. Come in comfortable attire as hands-on practice will be involved to better allow students to learn the basic exercises and techniques to facilitate recovery and prevent pain maladies from affecting us.

TCM is an oriental and complete medical system arising from a living tradition that spans at least 5,000 years from China. Resting upon a well-structured, solid and coherent theoretical basis (such as Yin-yang, five elements and meridian systems), TCM provides an integral framework for understanding, interpreting and organizing intervention in the human health-disease process. In this talk, participants will be given a brief introduction to TCM, to have a better understanding of how TCM works and how it defers from Western medicine./ As more people recognise the effectiveness of TCM in treating suboptimal health to severe diseases such as cancer, we have also seen an increase in patients of other races. Despite retaining ancient methods of diagnosis and treatments, TCM has managed to gain popularity across the globe and even achieved recognition by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Participants of this talk will be able to gain a better understanding of their own bodies using these basic TCM diagnostic methods. They will also learn about some herbs that can be used in combination with western medicine to treat ailments from the common cold to high blood pressure and joint pain. Apart from the basics, they will also learn how to avoid mishaps due to malpractice or misuse of certain treatment methods, so as to reap the true benefits of TCM.

年龄是老年痴呆的重要危险因素，随着新加坡进入老龄化社会，老年痴呆的发病率也 越来越高。中医认为本病的病位在脑，与心肝脾肾关系密切，结合老年人脏腑虚弱、多痰多瘀的发病特点，可以从中药、针灸、药膳、情志等方面对本病进行预防调护。
