DIPLOMA IN CHINESE MEDICINE HEALTH MANAGEMENT PRACTITIONER(CHINESE)

This course is targeted at public who have an interest in Health Preservation using Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and those who intend to pursue a career in health management with the use of TCM principles. Under the guidance of TCM theory, this course aims to give students a systematic approach to the principles, knowledge and methods of TCM health preservation. It explores the principles guiding the human life cycle; discusses the experiences and knowledge of TCM experts in the areas of body constitutions and the holistic approach to disease prevention with the objective of achieving longevity. As Singapore society progresses into an aging economy, the introduction of such knowledge is timely. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to independently complete a body constitution analysis report and formulate a personalized health preservation plan; enabling one to guide others in managing and improving their health, preventing ageing and diseases, maintaining lifestyle balance, and promoting longevity.

Entry Requirement:
(1) Minimum “Pass” for any one subject at GCE O level or equivalent or higher.
(2)Minimum “Pass” in Chinese at O level or equivalent or higher

Language Proficiency: Chinese, Minimum passed in Secondary one or equivalent or higher.

Foundation Subjects in TCM

Introduces the basic theories of TCM and diagnostics of TCM related to TCM health preservation.

Chinese Materia Medica

Introduces the basic theories of Chinese Materia Medica and 60 types of foods with medicinal values that are related to TCM health preservation.

TCM Formulary

Introduces the formula combining principles and 20-30 representative herbal formulas related to TCM health preservation and medicated food therapy.

Health Preservation, Physical and Skills Training

On top of teaching the uses, characteristics and techniques of fitness training, students are also taught the techniques of qigong exercises “Yi Jin Jing”, “Wu Qin Xi”, “Ba Duan Jin”, and 24-styles simplified Tai Chi.

TCM Nutrition and Dietetics

To understand the components and uses of various nutritional foods. To grasp the knowledge of using food to enhance physical fitness, prevent diseases, boost body rehabilitation and slow down ageing using the theories of TCM.

TCM Health Preservation

Teaches the various health preservation concepts and principles of enhancing physical fitness, preventing diseases and prolonging life using the theories of TCM as a guide. Teaches students to differentiate and identify body type, and grasp methods of body type health preservation, health preservation during the four seasons, personalised health preservation, emotional health preservation, physical health preservation, lifestyle health preservation, nutritional health preservation and TCM skincare etc. This is so that students are able to accurately and independently complete TCM body type differentiation, identification and evaluation reports, and give health advice on lifestyle, emotional, diet, medication and exercise adjustments, foot massage and herbal teas etc.

TCM Health Preservation of the Meridians

Teaches the TCM meridians and the effects and indications of classic health preservation acupoints using the theories of TCM meridians. Teaches students to use moxibustion, massage, Tuina, and breathing techniques etc to achieve a state of balanced Yin and Yang and well-regulated, clear meridians, and ultimately enhance physical fitness and defeat diseases so as to help the body recover to a harmonious state of balanced Yin and Yang.

Prevention of Common Diseases

Using the common diseases of the respiratory system, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal tract, urinary tract, endocrine system, immune system, musculoskeletal system and nervous system etc as the main theme, this subject teaches students to grasp their causes, preventive measures and early signs and symptoms; be familiarised with their clinical presentations, laboratory tests, treatment methods, TCM herbal therapies and health preservation methods; understand the new research developments regarding these diseases and their treatments.

Introduction to Health Management

Teaches the definition, scientific basis, basic methods, service procedures, basic strategies, and local requirements, situation and application prospects etc of health management. Focuses on nurturing students to grasp lifestyle management services, demand management services, specialised disease management services and disability management services etc.
