DIPLOMA IN TCM PEDIATRIC HEALTHCARE THERAPIST (MANDARIN)

Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to understand the TCM fundamental theory healthcare for children, commonly used Chinese Materia Medica and TCM formula, physiological and pathological characteristics of children, children safety, children nutrition therapy, psychological therapy, children common diseases prevention, application for children tuina, precautions, commonly used acupuncture points, commonly used paediatric tuina techniques and manipulation skills. The course enables one to familiar the fundamental knowledge of children's health, master the basic skills of children's health therapy, to be a proficient children healthcare professional.

Entry Requirement:
(1) One GCE ‘O’ Level subject Pass or equivalent or higher; or
(2) Obtained Certificate in Basic Theory of TCM; or
(3) Aged 30 and above, with at least 5 years of related work experience.

Language Proficiency:
(1) At least a C6 at GCE O level Chinese
(2) Those who fail in Chinese course or who have not taken Chinese subject must take College Chinese language proficiency test.

Enrolment age

Aged 16 and above

Type of Qualification:

Completion of all 9 modules, with an attendance rate of at least 75%, and those who pass the examination of all subjects will be allowed to graduate after being approved by the examination committee and issued:

Understand the fundamentals theory of TCM, including TCM basic theory and TCM diagnostic.

The Chinese Materia Medica

Understand the theory and application of Chinese medicine.

TCM Formulary

Understand the theory and application of TCM formulae, principle of prescription and the basic rules and techniques to ensure compatibility among different herbs.

Diet For Pediatric Health Care

Understand the common diet for children's health conditioning, study the use of these diet to regulate children's health, prevent diseases, and promote recovery after illness under the guidance of TCM theory.

TCM Therapist For Pediatric Health Care

Understand the physiological and pathological characteristics of children, children healthcare based on, nutrition conditioning, psychological conditioning and other methods, basic knowledge of child safety and first aid, basic knowledge of children’s medication.

Prevention of common Pediatric diseases

Understand the common concepts of common diseases in children, etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and methods of prevention and care.

Fundamental of Pediatric Tuina

Understand the different manipulation children tuina techniques, scope of adaptation, contraindications, tuina guidelines, specific acupoints and common techniques of pediatric massage.

Pediatric Tuina Therapy

Understand the common pediatric discomforts and the methods of pediatric massage treatment, focusing on the different manipulation children tuina techniques in the treatment of common discomforts in children.

Internship and Practice

Demonstrations by lecturers and practice by students. Lecturers will guide students to familiarize themselves with specific acupoints and different manipulation children tuina techniques.
