On 19 July 2026, our College organised a one-day seminar on laser acupuncture. It was conducted by our guest speaker, Dr Michael Weber, an internationally recognised leader in the field of laser acupuncture. With more than 30 years of clinical experience, Dr Weber has published extensively on regenerative therapies, osteoarthritis, and the integration of advanced technologies such as exosomes and stem cells with laser-based treatments, and is the author of a comprehensive textbook on laser therapy.
During the Basic Class, Dr Weber introduced the differences between laser acupuncture and conventional metal-needle acupuncture. He also discussed the clinical applications of laser acupuncture in neurological disorders, stroke rehabilitation, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, paediatric conditions, gynaecological disorders and cancer support.
The Advanced Class focused on the advanced use of laser devices, including resonance and frequency settings, as well as the application of laser acupuncture in wound healing for diabetic ulcers and pressure sores.
In addition to the theoretical lectures, the programme featured a practical demonstration session. A TCM acupuncturist from Tan Tock Seng Hospital performed laser acupuncture on participants under the guidance of Dr Weber. This interactive session enabled participants to gain a clearer understanding of the modern procedure and safety considerations involved in clinical practice.
Through Dr Weber’s detailed explanations and clinical insights, participants gained a deep understanding of the principles, applications and future development of laser acupuncture. The programme also provided a valuable platform for healthcare professionals and TCM practitioners to explore how modern medical technology may complement traditional Chinese medicine.
